Establishing Maui’s First Parking Management Program
August 2017 – Present | Project Lead: Emily Kwatinetz
To address the growing parking demands of a popular tourist destination, the County of Maui partnered with DIXON to design and implement PARK MAUI, the island’s first municipal parking management program.
DIXON developed a Parking Action Plan addressing enforcement, paid parking, and wayfinding. In 2022, a pilot program for paid parking launched at key destinations, reducing congestion and enhancing the visitor experience. The County’s first parking garage in Wailuku Town was also completed, incorporating state-of-the-art technology to meet Maui’s unique needs.
PARK MAUI represents a significant step forward in balancing the needs of residents and visitors while establishing a modern standard for parking management in Hawai‘i.
