The California Mobility & Parking Association (CMPA)Annual Conference was a resounding success for DIXON Resources Unlimited. This prestigious accolade recognizes her outstanding contributions to advancing public parking in California and her dedication to elevating industry standards. Julie’s leadership, vision, and commitment to innovation continue to inspire and shape the future of parking management.

Congratulations, Julie, on this well-deserved honor!

Spotlight on Costa Mesa: Advancing Equity &Residential Parking Solutions

One of the standout sessions featured the City of Costa Mesa presenting on Equity & Residential Parking. Raja Sethuraman, Lt. Stephanie Selinske, and Sgt. Jared Barnes, along with special guests Kole Bussell and Elizabeth Palacio, led an engaging discussion on the City’s commitment to equitable parking management. DIXON Resources Unlimited was proud to collaborate with Costa Mesa in overhauling their Residential Parking Permit Program (RPPP), applying our expertise to tackle the City’s complex parking challenges.

Costa Mesa faced significant complexities, including the impact of multi-unit dwellings, commercial spillover, and non-permitted areas. DIXON conducted in-depth on-site assessments, analyzed over 10,000 parking spaces, and engaged with residents through surveys and virtual town halls. The resulting Residential Parking Action Plan introduced a license plate-based system and a phased implementation strategy, creating a more accessible and equitable parking experience for the community.

Recognized Excellence

The success of Costa Mesa’s revamped RPPP has been widely acknowledged, earning the City the 2023 Public Parking Program of the Year award from the California Mobility & Parking Association. This recognition highlights the effectiveness of DIXON’s data-driven and community-first approach to parking management.

Making Parking Positive: A Vision for the Future

In addition to celebrating our work with Costa Mesa, DIXON’s own Julie Dixon had the honor of participating in the final session of the conference, discussing How to Make Parking Positive. Her insights, drawn from years of experience in the industry, resonated with a full room of attendees eager to transform the narrative around parking management. By prioritizing transparency, leveraging data, and emphasizing community engagement, DIXON continues to set the standard for positive parking experiences.

LPR: Unlocking Data Beyond Enforcement

Another impactful session, "LPR, More than Enforcement," featured DIXON’s Cameron Clark alongside Jon Hamblen and Nick Nicholas. They shared insights on the transformative potential of License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology. By using LPR for ongoing data collection, cities can unlock powerful insights into occupancy trends, turnover patterns, and enforcement efficiency. The discussion highlighted how LPR serves as a foundational tool for dynamic parking management.

Looking Ahead: Driving Innovation in Parking Management

The CMPA 2024 conference reaffirmed the importance of collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to equitable parking solutions. DIXON Resources Unlimited remains dedicated to helping cities like Costa Mesa navigate their unique parking challenges with tailored, data-driven solutions.
